Repairs to top half of Wenceslas Sq. could hit CZK 1.7bn

29 March 2018

Repairs of the upper portion of Wenceslas square in central Prague should get underway in 2020 or 2021, an investment the city claims will cost up to CZK 1.7bn. Prague city councilor Jan Wolf says that work can’t begin before repairs to underground infrastructure tracts are made. The square is being redesigned according to a design created by Cigler-Marani Architects back in 2005. As yet, it hasn’t been decided whether work will proceed from the top of the square down towards the tram tracks that cross it or the other way. Construction work on the bottom half of the 680 meter square has already gotten underway. A final decision on whether trams will ever run down the square from Vinohrady hasn’t been made yet, but Wolf says there’s no chance of it happening in the next 15 years.
