Buffett does Berlin deal

29 March 2018

The famous American business magnate Warren Buffett has completed a franchise agreement with Rubina Real Estate, a Berlin company that helps foreigners invest in upscale residential properties in the German capital city. Specifically, the deal is between Rubina and Buffett’s Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices, which Rubina wrote “complements our real estate agency network perfectly.” Rubina, which Deutsche Welle reports as specializing in exclusive areas in the city’s Mitte, Kopenick and Zehlendorf districts, works primarily with investors from China, India and the Middle East. Average property prices in Berlin have more than doubled since 2004 and jumped more than a third in the last three years. There are questions whether the allegedly prophetic Buffett hasn’t waited until too late to jump into the city’s property boom. But DW quotes Rubina’s CEO Carston Heinrich as saying that “demand for premium real estate … not only brings capital into the city, but also networks and international influences.”
