Transparency International: Czechia improves slightly

23 February 2018

The Czech Republic has improved its standing in the corruption standings. Transparency International’s index rewarded the country for the passage of new anti-corruption laws such as changes to the financing of political parties and amendments to the law on conflict of interest, according to Czech Radio. The country improved its standing from 47th to 42nd in the eyes of Transparency International, which warns it still has concerns about the connection between economic and political forces. The Czech office of Transparency International writes that the slight improvement of the country is nothing to get overly proud about. “The current position of the Czech Republic should be interpreted not as the beginning of a positive new trend but rather as the result of stagnation in certain monitored areas. Otherwise, the evaluation could have turned out better.”
