Debate in the Czech Republic over whether or not to hold a referendum on whether to remain within the European Union has unsettled foreign investors who depend on free access to the rest of the continent’s markets. Hospodářské noviny spoke with Radek Špicar, vice president of the Industrial and and Transport Union. He said that having spoken with numerous companies who said they would consider leaving the country if it voted to leave the EU. “If there were an exit of foreign investors from the country, the most uncomfortable thing would be the loss of jobs and the fall of public finances,” he said. “In the fight against nonsense and myths about the European Union it’s necessary to explain what doesn’t work in the union and how to change it,” he continued. “Admit the failings but also to say clearly that the advantages (to membership) definitely outweigh them.”
