Confusion continues to rule the day over the fate of the Liben bridge which connects Prague 7 and Prague 8 as long-delayed decisions complicate how to deal with its closure. Long before inspectors ordered the transport artery closed because of catastrophic safety issues, the country’s Ministry of Culture had been weighing whether or not to declare the structure a cultural monument. This has come to a head as delays in dealing with whether to repair, or replace the bridge led to its emergency closure. The news server E15 reports that it is at present unclear whether a decision by the Ministry to call Liben bridge a national monument could block what some in Prague believe to be the most rational, economic solution: building a new bridge. A political solution will have to be reached but for the time being, the only thing the press is hearing is accusations of blame from multiple sides.
