D11 construction threatened by land owner

24 January 2018

A land owner has challenged the building permit issued in December for the construction of a 7.4 km stretch of the D11 motorway between Smiřic and Jaroměř, north of Hradec Králové. The owner said no one had spoken with him about the project and that the Czech state didn’t have right to use the land. The Czech Highway Authority rejected the claim, saying that without the proper discussions, the construction permit couldn’t have been issued. The land owner goes on to claim that the project lacks the correct planning permits and that runoff water from the highway will contaminate the surrounding plots of land. Lidove noviny reports that work on the D11 motorway began 39 years ago. The 152 km road leading from Prague to the Polish border still has more than 60 km to go.
