Change coming (maybe) for Bratislava’s Kamenné námestie

22 January 2018

Kamenné námestie in central Bratislava has been deteriorating for years now, despite continual complaints from the public. The basic problem has widely been seen as the inability of the main owners of property on the square to reach an agreement on what to do with the space. The developer Lordship owns the Kyjev hotel, while Tesco owns the even less attractive structure that houses its own store.

The Bratislava Newspaper is now reporting that change is coming to the square but the article it runs says simply that a study with hundreds of pages has been filed with the city full of suggestions from numerous local groups on how to revitalize the square. The article does quote a PR manager for Tesco as saying that the company continues to look at the alternatives for its building, which she admits is both old and attractively located. It then speaks with Lordship, whose spokesman claims that the reconstruction of the hotel (i.e. not its demolition) should being next year. The building has been close for six years.
