After weeks of negotiations, the Czech parliament has finally met in order to vote on whether to allow Andrej Babiš to be formally investigated and prosecuted for the misuse of state subsidies. It’s a low point for the man who was appointed by Czech president Miloš Zeman to form a government, but who failed to win a vote of confidence last week. Babiš claims the scandal surrounding his company Agrofert’s use of EU funds to build a conference center that looks like it’s nam (The Stork’s Nest) is politically motivated. Critics of the would-be prime minister reject the accusation, insisting that a conglomerate the size of Agrofert was simply ineligible for the subsidies.
