Marriott to open hotel in 300-year-old building in Hungary

18 December 2017

A 300-year-old building complex that is part of the Benedictine Archabbey of Pannonhalma, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in northwest Hungary, will be expanded into a four-star hotel. The director of European hotel development for the Marriott hotel chain signed a 20-year agreement to operate the property. The cost of the expansion is estimated at HUF 5bn, of which HUF 2.95bn will be from a government grant. This will be Hungaryʼs first Marriott outside of the capital and one of the top hotels in the region. Construction is scheduled to start in March next year with completion planned for Easter 2020.
