Construction has started on a mixed-income apartment complex in Cambridge, Mass. backed by joint venture partners Twining Properties and Mass Prim. The $190 million project will includes a 308,000 square foot building with 308 mixed-income apartments along with 17,000 sqf of retail space. Located at the intersection of Mass Avenue and Main Street in Central Square, Mass+Main, the six-story, three-building development will house 248 market-rate and 60 affordable units. The first phase of construction will be completed in 2018, with final handover of all units in mid-2020.
“The affordable housing and mixed-income elements of this development give families an opportunity to stay and live in Cambridge,” said Deb Goldberg, state treasurer of Massachusetts. She said that the mission of Prim Mass was “to invest in projects like this that prioritize affordable and mixed-income housing in a way that supports our communities.”
