Bratislava makes shortlist for EU agency HQ

9 November 2017

The Financial Times is reporting that Bratislava and Milan have emerged as the front-runners to take over the European Medicines Agency (EMA) as a result of the Brexit vote in the U.K. last year. It would be a coup for the Slovak capital if it were to win the right to host the agency and its staff of 600 and provide another boost to the office sector which is about to see a flurry of new completions. Whether or not it would make EMA staff happy is another matter. In early October, it emerged that most of the employees of the agency would stick with their employer if it were to move to cities like Amsterdam, Barcelona, Copenhagen, Milan, or Vienna. Anywhere else, according to reports, and around 70 percent of the staff would jump ship. A decision is expected by November 20.
