The city of Prague is to hold a tender for the completion of Prague’s inner ring road, a roughly CZK 344m investment that would connect the northern end of the Blanka tunnel (Pelc-Tyrolka) with Balabanka. Preparations and project documentation should begin by 2019, while contractors are supposed to be chosen by 2023. If everything goes as scheduled, construction should begin in 2024. This would allow for completion of the road by as early as 2031.
Prague’s city assembly failed twice to approve the planned investment, before a third meeting held on Thursday resulted in a green light. Two routes are under consideration, one employing a tunnel for part of it and the other utilizing and expanding existing roads. The investment will have to overcome concerns of residents who fear the road will bring more traffic to the area and with it, pollution.
