It takes an average of 247 days to be granted a construction permit in the Czech Republic, placing the country in the 127th spot when it comes to efficiency, according to the World Bank’s 2017 ranking. By comparison, Poland’s permitting process takes aaround 153 days, while in Denmark, the wait averages 64 days. However, the Czech permitting process could speed up starting next year, thanks to a new amendment to to country’s Construction Act, which is set to go into effect on Jan. 1. Market watcher say that the process could be shortened by months. Evžen Korec, general manager at Ekospol, believes that the current Czech permiting approach is the most complicated out of all the EU countries. The slow permitting process might also be contributing to the rapid rise of property prices in the Czech Republic, as supply cannot meet demand.
