Czech Antimonopoly Office cancels railway tender worth CZK 3.5bn

27 September 2017

The Czech Antimonopoly Office (UOHS) cancelled a tender for the modernization of a key railway junction in Prague worth an estimated CZK 3.5bn, claiming that the national railway operator SŽDC broke the law. The tender was appealed by Eurovia, which led a competing consortium with Strabag Rail and GJW Praha and came in second in the tender, writes lidovky.cz. Metrostav with Swietelsky Rail and SMP CZ won the tender. SŽDC has responded that while it does not agree with the ruling, it will respect it, which means it must reconsider the bids and the qualifications of the bidders. It’s the second time SŽDC has tried to hold this tender, which would allow for the modernization of the section of track between Praha Hostivař and the main railway station. The first tender was cancelled in June last year, followed by a second attempt in the autumn.
