Warsaw Chopin Airport reports record passenger numbers for summer 2024

Warsaw Chopin Airport has achieved a significant milestone this summer, handling a total of 6,576,563 passengers from June 21 to September 22, 2024, according to Polish Airports.

Andrzej IlkĆ³w, President of PPL, hailed the end of summer as a historic period for the airport, noting, ā€œThe records in passenger numbers and transported cargo reflect the dynamic growth of Chopin Airport. We have also introduced critical new routes, including flights to Riyadh and Addis Ababa, strengthening our position in the international network.ā€ He further highlighted the upcoming arrival of Air Arabia, which will initiate flights to Sharjah, and announced that Etihad Airways, the UAEā€™s national carrier, will soon offer direct flights from Chopin Airport to Abu Dhabi.

The summer season marked a remarkable trend, with the airport seeing over 2 million passengers in both July and August for the first time. A historic daily record was set on August 2, when 78,248 travelers passed through the airport. Additionally, August saw a record number of charter flight passengers, exceeding 471,000, which accounted for 19% of total passenger traffic.

Chopin Airport also reported a record in cargo tonnage, surpassing 10,000 tonnes for the first time in July. This record was broken again in August, with a total of 10,107 tonnes cleared, representing a 13% increase compared to the same month last year.

In 2023, Warsaw Chopin Airport served a total of 18.5 million passengers, demonstrating its growing importance as a key hub in the region. With continued infrastructure development and new airline partnerships on the horizon, the airport aims to enhance its services and meet the evolving needs of its customers.
