The Czech national railway operator SŽDC greenlighted plans to build a rooftop walkway over the Masaryk railway station in Prague 1. A tender for planning documentation will be launched based on a study prepared by Jakub Cigler Architekti and Sudop Praha. SŽDC hopes to secure a planning permit for the project, worth CZK 350 to 450m, by 2019, with construction to get underway in 2022. The rooftop walkway, which will be covered with greenery, will not only connect Na Florenci, Hybernská and Opletalova streets, but also provide pedestrians with a quicker route to Prague’s main train station. It will also add a new public relaxation space to the city center. The project is part of Penta’s reconstruction plans for the Masaryk train station. Penta plans to invest CZK 1.7bn into the station. In the future, the Masaryk station will offer a railway connection from Prague 1 to the city’s Václav Havel Airport.
