In a first for the Romanian legal system, a former minister has received a definitive verdict on the terms of his prison sentence. Ioan Avram Muresan will spend seven years behind bars for embezzling almost 30 billion old lei. The former official says the case is politically motivated.
The former minister was picked up by the police and was taken to the Preventive Arrest and Detention Center Maramures after the High Court gave its final verdict: seven years in prison for embezzlement.
