Following the opening of a five star Wilson hotel at the top of Wenceslas square in Prague by the Spanish hotel chain Barceló, Accor announced that it plans to add another five star to the Prague hotel market. The French operator is refurbishing its four-star Old Town hotel at Na Poříčí street in Prague 1 into a five star facility that will be operated under the Mercure by Sofitel brand. Accor has tended to focus on mid-market hotels operating under the Ibis, Merkure, Novotel and MGallery brands in the Czech Republic. Hospodářské noviny writes that interest in Prague’s high-end market has strengthened with the influx of rich tourists from the US, Asia, and China. RevPar has increased 13 percent y-o-y in 2015 in Accor’s eight Czech hotels, according to the daily. Fierce competition on the four star hotel market in Prague is another reason for upgrading hotels to the 5-star category.
