Agreement with farmer opens way to D11 completion

27 November 2014

Construction of the final stretch of the D11 motorway from Prague to Hradec Králové can finally move forward. After 20 years of negotiations, the Czech state reached an agreement with the farmer Ludmila Havránková over land she owns that is needed to complete the motorway. The Havránková agreement is part of a wider deal in which the National Land Authority (Státní pozemkový úřad) will get 18 ha of farmland in Znojmo, Liberec and Česká Lípa. Under the deal, Havránková will be given 16.5 ha of land outside Hradec Králové that she had been leasing from the state. In exchange, Havránková agreed to give the state half of the plot needed for the D11. The second part of the plot belonged to her sister, Jaroslava Štrossová, who sold her share to the City of Hradec Králové last year. The city paid her CZK 1.7m for the 0.27 ha plot.

Construction of the 2.5 km stretch just outside Hradec Králové is expected to cost CZK 1.1bn. Completion is foreseen in 2017. Construction of the D11 motorway started in 1978. It will eventually run to Jaroměř and the Polish border in the future.
