The Czech press notice an interview given by Brian Chesky, founder of Airbnb, in which he admits the company grew too quickly and made numerous mistakes. The timing of the interview is sensitive, because cities around Europe, including Amsterdam and Prague, are at war with the company over its role in promoting mass tourism. Chesky makes all the right moves, speaking as if he realizes that big isn’t always better. “Now it’s time to learn, to move and to think about the impact our service has on cities and the communities that live in them,” he says. “We have to begin again.” Chesky says Airbnb will go back to its roots and focus on promoting the listings of individuals offering truly unique accommodations. This seems to suggest that the companies offering multiple listings could become a thing of the past. How it achieves this, however, remains to be seen.
