Profits at the supermarket retailer Albert rose to CZK 170m in 2017 from just CZK 3.8m in 2016. Revenues came in at CZK 49.7bn, roughly the same as the year before, according to the company’s annual report. The company invested more than CZK 1bn into the reconstruction of 70 of its supermarkets around the country. The most important of these projects was the one that accompanied the expansion of Centrum Chodov in Prague. “In Chodov, we opened a new concept hypermarket,” spokesman Jiří Mareček told the Czech News Agency. It presents innovations that will gradually be appearing in our other stores around the country.” Kaufland topped the Czech retail sector with CZK 57bn in revenues, but this represented a fall of 2 percent, while its profits fell 5 percent to CZK 1.97bn.
