All Aboard Florida announced Monday that it will rename its passenger trains the Brightline. The $2.5 billion privately funded high speed rail project will shuttle passengers between Miami, Fort Lauderdale, West Palm Beach and Orlando at speeds of up to 125 miles per hour. The new bright yellow locomotives trains will have free W-Fi, charging stations in all the seats, along with on-board food and beverage service. The three South Florida stations are currently under construction with Archer Western Contractors Ltd. named as the construction manager for the rail infrastructure of the Orlando station located at the Orlando International Airport.
Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach service is expected to start in mid-2017, with the connection to Orlando opening in late 2017. The Brightline is promising trips of less than 30 minutes from Miami to Fort Lauderdale, under 60 minutes from Miami to West Palm Beach, and about three hours from Miami to Orlando.
βThe Brightline will reset customer expectations for commuter needs on trains,β All Aboard Florida President Michael Reininger said. βGone is the gray or silver [on trains] that blends into the background. We want to take the gray out of travel.β
