Alro Slatina seeks energy savings

10 October 2014

Alro Slatina, Romania’s leading aluminum producer, paid $66m in energy bills last year. Gheorghe Dobra, the company’s CEO, is looking for ways to lower the escalating costs. Dobra said that energy costs had amounted to over $1,000 per ton of aluminum. Alro has invested $500m over the last 10 years for environmental projects and reducing energy consumption. The company failed to submit documentation necessary for eligibility to a tax relief program for green certification charges, meaning it will not be able to save money in this way.
