Andrei Tudorel appointed INS chief

21 January 2013

Andrei Tudorel, a doctorate tutor with the Academy of Economic Studies who specializes in economic statistics and cybernetics, was appointed chief of the National Statistics Institute (INS). Tudorel replaces Vergil Voineagu following a serious calculation error made by the INS in which the estimated 2011 GDP was off by approximately RON 20bn. Prime Minister Victor Ponta called for a change in INS management earlier this month.

Tudorel was previously a statistician for the World Bank, focusing on finance and education reform. He also worked with the National Prognosis Commission and was a member of the PHARE project.
