Anheuser-Busch eyes Staropramen owner

22 February 2012

Anheuser-Busch InBev is just one of the the brewing giants said to be in the hunt to purchase Starbev, which produces one of the Czech Republic’s favorite beers, Staropramen. Sources close to the negotiation action say the deal could be worth $3bn, though a sale is not thought to be imminent at this point. Other big names said to be in the mix include SABMiller, Carlsberg, Molson Coors and Heineken. It’s thought that Anheuser-Busch may have a jump on its competition, because Starbev, along with producing Staropramen and other, less well-known beers, distributes Anheuser brands such as Beck’s, Hoegaarden and Stella Artois.
