Archeologists request delay on D1 completion near Přerov

10 January 2018

Archeologists have requested that work on the final section of the D1 between Prague and Ostrava could be delayed by six months. They’re claiming to have made valuable discoveries at a site outside Přerov containing artifacts from the Neolithic era that provide insights into the beginnings of agriculture, as well as from the Stone Age. The Czech Highway Authority has ordered the request to be studied by an independent body of experts before it decides whether to grant the request. Work was supposed to begin on the completion of the D1 this spring, but this timetable had already been called into doubt. An environmental group began court proceedings to have the route changed in a move that could cause additional months or years of delay.
