Austrian Airline cancels flights until May 17

16 April 2020

Austrian Airlines has extended the period during which it will leave its plane on the grounds by two weeks until May 17. The Lufthansa subsidiary grounded its fleet of 80 planes due to the coronavirus crisis. Customers hoping to get refunds may be out of luck, however, as the company is currently putting their tickets on hold, subject to re-booking. It’s thought that vouchers are being offered in lieu of refunds because the airline simply doesn’t have the cash to spare to pay customers out. Flights were initially until March 28th, a date that was then pushed back to April 19th, then to May 3rd and now until May 17th. Consumer advocates warn that customer funds are not secured in the event of bankruptcy.
