Austrian wine exports weaken due to crisis

16 June 2020

The Austria Wine Marketing Board estimates that the volume of wine sold by companies in the catering sector between mid-March and mid-May fell by more than 23 million liters. The coronavirus crisis has thus a deeply negative effect on winegrowers, with numerous wine fairs in Burgenland having cancelled their events, while exports have weakened.

Winegrowers have been further hampered by the cancellation of numerous international and national trade fairs. The Burgerland Winegrowers Association president Andreas Liegenfeld said his organization’s members are having serious difficulties selling their product abroad because of limited demand.
