A weekly magazine called the Skoda Trade Union Worker is fueling speculation that plans are being made to move production work on some vehicles to Bratislav. Rumors surfaced a week ago that the new Superb model would be handed over to Volkswagen’s Slovak factory along with the Fabia. Now, the magazine warns, the company’s new SUV, the Kamiq, could also be outsourced abroad. In the magazine, a union leader Jaroslav Povšík said Škoda was “playing with future workplaces, with the company’s profitability and with the creation of bonuses and other components of compensation for employees.” He said if the company valued the cooperative nature of its relationship with unions, it would have to stop discussing the company’s production plans without their input. “If you want to continue this way then there won’t be any solidarity anymore with the board of directors,” said Povšík. “We’ll switch to collective bargaining and there will be fire here!”
