Banking sector shrinks in Poland

14 December 2012

The 2013 forecast is not looking great for the Polish banking sector. A few days after Raiffeisen Bank announced plans to cut more than 800 jobs in its regional offices, Idea Bank also said it will cut 150 by the end of 2015. Idea’s decision reportedly stems from its merger with Polbank. An additional 700 Idea Bank employees could also be cut after the deal with Tax Care closes. “After taking 100 percent of Tax Care, we have reviewed our structures,” the bank said in a statement. “The synergy created by this merger made it possible for us to reduce the workforce in the bank.”
According to the daily Puls Biznesu, Citi Handlowy cut 590 jobs this spring, while Bank BHP cut 600. Nordea laid off 500 and 700 were let go at DnB Nord. BGŻ pink-slipped 380 and BNP Paribas cut 400.
