Barcelona City Hall to hit owners of empty apartments with new fee

14 July 2016

Owners of empty apartment buildings in Barcelona may soon be charged a new city administrative fee of €633, followed by an additional €286 fee for each time officials have to send them a notification regarding the empty buildings. City Hall will present this provisional plan to the Economy Commission this week for approval. The aim is to shift the cost of bureaucracy from the public to the owners of empty apartment buildings as well as to dissuade owners from leaving their properties empty.
