Barrandov terraces in Prague getting a facelift

13 October 2016

Barrandov terraces in Prague are to get a thorough facelift. Work began in September on the iconic functionalist building on top of the Barrandov cliffs in Prague 5 built in 1928 by the architect Max Urban. The modernized complex with two restaurants should open in three years. The owner, Michalis Dzikos, has not disclosed the costs of the reconstruction, but sources estimate they could run to CZK 200-500m. Dzikos, who bought Barrandov terraces in 2001, has had a construction permit since 2011. He is cooperating with the architect Ondřej Kukral on the modernization of the original object, while Kuba Pilař architects designed a two story apartment hotel that will consist of two buildings. They will replace the original terraces which are no longer suitable for recreational or restaurant purposes due to the level of noise produced by traffic on the busy arterial road running along the base of the cliffs.
