Bill would cut years off the wait for motorway construction

23 January 2018

Frustrated by the years it takes to build new motorways in the Czech Republic, the Minister of Transportation Dan Ťok has prepared a bill that could shorten the time it takes to begin construction. Years can be lost trying to buy out land owners, says the minister, whose bill would make it possible for the state to carry out land surveys and even being building without permission of the owners. According to Hospordářské noviny, Ťok modelled the bill on a similar German law, which he claims has worked well for years now. Ťok plans to submit the bill to parliament before the end of January. It could only be applied for strategic projects, which in the Czech Republic reportedly means all currently planned motorways, a new connection to the Prague international airport and four planned high-speed rail lines.
