Blackhawk breaks ground on Fort Lauderdale office tower

21 March 2018

Blackhawk Properties & Investments broke ground on a mixed-use building in downtown Fort Lauderdale. The project, the 550 Building, will be the first new-build office tower in downtown Fort Lauderdale’s South of Las Olas (SOLO) district since 1989. Plans call for a seven-story tower offering 95,532 sq ft of office space, 7,500 sq ft of ground-floor restaurant and patio space along with an attached parking garage with more than 600 spots. Formerly home to the Justice Building, the site was purchased by Blackhawk Properties for $3.6m. The scheme is slated for completion in the spring of 2019.

“The 550 Building will be a great addition to an area that is burgeoning with residential development and lacking in modern office, retail and restaurant space,” said Joseph Byrnes, senior vice president at Berger Commercial Realty/CORFAC International, the exclusive leasing and property management firm for the project. “Several office tenants and restaurant operators have been monitoring the progress of the project and are actively speaking with us to advance their plans for occupancy.”
