Blanka tunnel set to open on Dec. 2

1 October 2014

Prague’s Blanka tunnel is set to open for trial operations on Dec. 2, according to Deputy Mayor Jiří Nouza. ČKD Praha DIZ, which is fitting the tunnel with additional equipment, originally said that it would have the work and safety tests completed in April. The new Trojský bridge, which is part of the complex, is scheduled to open next week.

Metrostav completed construction on Tuesday. The tunnel, the longest in the country, should have opened in 2011, but completion was repeatedly postponed due to payment disputes between the city and the construction company. The project is expected to cost almost CZK 37bn, approximately CZK 10bn more than original estimates.
