BNS wants to change labor code

5 November 2012

The National Trade Union Block (BNS) launched a campaign to modify the labor code that would offer more protection to Romanian employees, but business associations warn this could hamper foreign investments.

BNS wants to increase the monthly minimum wage to RON 1,000 (€220) and lower social contributions paid by employers by 4 percent. BNS also wants to extend employee contracts from three to five years.

The group is currently hitting the streets with its proposal and is hoping to get 100,000 people to sign a petition by April before taking its demands to Parliament.
