Bohumín town hall will offer 52 new flats in a renovated colony from 1908

Bohumín town hall will offer 52 new flats in a restored colony from 1908. The rent auction is planned for May and June. The starting price will be from CZK 95 per square metre, announced Jana Končítková, a spokeswoman for the city today. The cost of repairing the flats and the surrounding buildings was CZK 173 million. It was one of the city’s biggest investments in recent years.

The transformation of the eight 1908 houses, which were dilapidated, began in the spring of 2021. Over two years, the city had 64 original apartments with local heating converted into 52 two- to four-room apartments with balconies, internal insulation and central heating. “Most of them are duplexes, the smallest is 69 square metres and the largest is 123 square metres including terraces,” the spokeswoman said.

One of the largest investments in recent years required CZK 159 million to reconstruct the houses, with another CZK 14 million going towards building sidewalks and parking lots. “This is a premium address in the city centre. There is a kindergarten and a public transport stop in the immediate vicinity, a primary school and a shop within a five-minute walk. The flats are generous in space and meet the requirements for exclusive living. In addition, thanks to the internal insulation, we have managed to preserve the historical character of the colony, thanks to which it will become one of the attractive architectural landmarks of the town,” said Bohumín Mayor Petr Vícha (ČSSD).

The town hall expects that there will be a great demand for the new housing. Due to the high number of flats on offer, it has divided the bidding dates into four blocks. The first will take place on 15 and 17 May, the next on 29 and 31 May, and the next on 12 and 14 June and 26 and 28 June. “In addition to the regular tours of individual flats, we are also considering a similar open day, when we would allow people to see one of the reconstructed houses,” said Kateřina Pálková, head of the Bohumín City Hall’s housing administration.

Most of the tenants who succeed in the public auction will be able to take over the keys to their new flats by the middle of this year. “In accordance with the planned schedule, we are completing the final works and improvements, including the completion of new roads and parking lots, and then we plan to green the entire area by planting about 100 trees. In two months, everything will be ready for the red colony to come to life again,” said Lumír Macura (ČSSD), the vice-mayor of Bohumín.
