The district court in Bratislava III ruled that a top manager of the company D4R7 Construction would not be held in jail as had been demanded by the regional prosecutor in connection with charges of environmental damage. M.H., as the manager is being identified in the press, was wanted in connection with the allegedly illegal mining of construction materials used in the construction of portions of the Bratislava ring road system. The court accepted the written promise of the accused that he wouldn’t leave the country and that he would report to a probation officer once per week. Michael H. was taken into custody by police on May 29 after claiming to have found damage to the environment in Dunajska Lužná that’s been calculated at €12.5m. D4R7 claims that it had a rental contract with the owner of the land in question that was made with the purpose of extracting gravel from it to be used in the project. The daily Pravda reports that while the company admits that not all of the necessary permits for the extraction were in place, this didn’t mean that it had caused any environmental damage.
