Construction of a sports park that will replace the former velodrome in Bratislava’s New Town is scheduled to break ground within a year. The first phase of the project – groundworks and greenery – will be co-financed by a grant worth €450,000 from a Norwegian fund. The city says it will need €650,000 to be able to complete the whole project.
The city has launched an architectural contest for the project’s second phase. The original velodrome was torn down four years ago. The administration of the New Town district applied for the land to be transferred under its management. Construction should start in the first half of next year, with completion scheduled in April 2016.
