Bratislava’s mysterious 2015 budget

25 February 2015

Bratislava’s new political leadership continues to come under fire as it establishes its priorities and goals. Most recently has been criticism for its failure to present a budget for 2015, with opposition deputies claiming that they haven’t even been presented with basic numbers or documents on the city’s spending plans. “If we don’t know where the city wants to save and where it wants to spend more, the mayor can’t expect that the budget will be passed in a month,” said Jozef Uhler of the opposition Sieť party.
The head of the city’s financial commission Ján Budaj claims he’s been asking the mayor for at least the outline of a budget since December. “So far, however, the financial commission hasn’t received any documents and they didn’t even give us a copy of the presentation that was given last week,” he says. “The situation is alarming. It’s been more than three months since the elections and we think that it’s necessary to get the work moving more quickly.”
