British Gas earnings are down 7 percent and the company has lost 400,000 UK households to other energy suppliers in the first half of this year. The owner of the gas company, Centrica, has said that in the past six months, profits have fallen to GBP 516 million, with revenues dipping to GBP 13.3bn. The company has blamed the “competitive environment” on the decline in customers. Energy analyst at uSwitch.com, Claire Osborne, claims that while British Gas has exploited low wholesale energy prices while its customers have yet to see any benefits. “The best deal British Gas provides is still GBP 290 a year more expensive than the cheapest competitor on the market.”
