Brno councilors did not discuss yesterday whether to recommend to the June council to approve the draft zoning plan. They’ll be back in a week. The city management was informed about this yesterday at a briefing after the meeting of the council. For example, the coalition ODS has complaints about the proposal, and Mayor Markéta Vaňková stated that she sees defects in the proposal so far. Brno has a zoning plan from 1994 and its appearance, even after updates, no longer meets the needs.
The current zoning plan will expire in 2028. Originally, however, it was supposed to expire this year, so after the elections in 2018, the new coalition of ODS, KDU-ČSL, Pirates and CSSD identified the new zoning plan as a priority and began working on its form. During the election period, however, the deadline was postponed.
According to Deputy Mayor Petr Hladík (KDU-ČSL), the Brno Council today placed the relevant item on the council, and also decided that the draft zoning plan should be published. “We will return to our own recommendation to approve or disapprove the draft zoning plan at the next council,” Hladík said. According to him, there are still some issues that still need to be discussed. “No draft zoning plan is perfect, and that’s how I approach it. After its issuance, it will definitely be necessary for further changes and adjustments, that’s just the way it is, the first bowl of scales is still more for me,” said Hladík.
Vaňková stated that they had a relatively long meeting with their ODS colleagues on the draft zoning plan on Tuesday. According to her, the biggest problem is with the matter of land that the state once transferred to Brno free of charge.
Deputy Mayor Jiří Oliva (ČSSD) stated that the city urgently needs a zoning plan and that they would very much like to vote for it. “But first it is necessary to resolve the issue that the city does not have to return land that it has acquired free of charge from the state and that has been issued to the city on the condition that the zoning plan does not change there. Oliva said. According to him, it is still nine hectares, but it is possible that it will be a larger area.
Deputy Tomáš Koláčný (Pirates) has previously stated that if the document were to have defects that would call it into question, the approval of the proposal would be postponed until the next term. But he hopes that will not happen. The election is in September.
