Brno is expected to make a final decision about the online giant Amazon’s plans to build a major logistics hub in the city’s Černovická terraces zone. The measure needs the support of 28 members of the Brno assembly to pass. Mayor Roman Onderka (ČSSD) has assured that all Social Democratic assembly members will support the measure. CTP is to develop the warehouse for Amazon.
Amazon’s interest in Brno runs deep, and sources claim that the e-retailer has never seriously considered finding a new location for its investment. Amazon has even backed down on its demand that the new hub be ready in time for the Christmas shopping season, according to local news reports. Still, construction is expected to begin shortly after the project is approved. Onderka said the city’s labor office will assist Amazon in filling the 2,000 jobs the investment is expected to create. Unemployed people living in the South Moravia region will be given precedence.
