Since this spring, Brno heating plants have been intensively preparing for the possibility of starting to heat with light heating oils in the event that there is a shortage of natural gas. By the end of this year, they have secured almost 90 percent of the necessary natural gas, Renata Diatková said.
“By the end of 2022, Teplárny Brno will have secured almost 90 percent of natural gas. For the entire fiscal year, i.e. from October 2022 to September 2023, 62 percent has been purchased and is continuously being purchased,” said Diatková
At the same time, since the beginning of this year, heating plants have been preparing for the possibility that there will not be enough natural gas and they will have to use other fuels. Specifically, they are preparing a variant of burning light heating oils, which would be possible by replacing the burners. In case of emergency, they can also increase the supply of heat from the waste incinerator of the city company SAKO Brno.
“Regarding the replacement of gas with light heating oil, market research and preliminary requests for LTO suppliers are currently underway, details will be known only after he has been selected,” added Diatková.
Teplárny Brno has been working on reducing dependence on natural gas for a long time. They are building a new biomass source that should start operating next year, they are placing photovoltaic panels on the roofs of their buildings, and they are cooperating with the municipal waste company SAKO Brno to produce heat from waste incineration.
The government announced today that the Ministry of Industry and Trade will announce the so-called emergency prevention in the heating industry from September 5. It will allow heating plants to heat using fuels other than natural gas, without facing sanctions or lengthy permitting processes.
