An international architectural competition is being held for the Brno’s new main train station. The winner is expected to be announced in March. The winning bid provide a hyper-modern design emphasizing an ecological approach and the use of the latest technologies. A key issue will be how the new station provides access to Brno’s main bus station, as well as a pedestrian and bicycle connection to the city center and a modern parking system. Judges will be looking carefully not just at the station’s design but at the use of public space around the station. Brno’s new station will be connected to the city’s tram network. “We want to give architects a free hand,” said Brno deputy mayor Petr Hladik, speaking with the daily Pravo. “The competition is international, which ensures that the architects will offer solutions that are less-well known to us and possibly unusual ones.”
