Brno offers young families 28 starter apartments, which are intended for married, registered and unmarried couples. The condition is a maximum age of 40 years, meaning at the time of application. The press center of the municipality reported this on the website. Priority is given to families with children. Those interested can apply until August 18.
The goal of the starter apartment is to facilitate people’s path to their own housing. Thanks to the lower rent, they can save for their own housing. The city offers starter apartments for a period of three years, with the possibility of a two-year extension. The condition is that none of the applicants is a tenant of another starter apartment in Brno. Also, applicants cannot own housing, and if they are renting, they must prove that their rent is unsatisfactory for them, for example due to their financial and social situation.
The city will give priority to families with a child or children, while a child conceived but not yet born is also considered a child. The amount of income is limited. The joint net monthly income must reach a minimum of 0.8 times and a maximum of 1.7 times the average gross salary declared by the Czech Statistical Office for the previous year. Currently, according to the city, these amounts range from CZK 30,271 to CZK 64,326.
Brno manages almost 30,000 apartments, which is about 15 percent of the total number of apartments in Brno. The rest is privately owned. The city uses hundreds of apartments as social or startup apartments.
