Brno to build primary schools and kindergarten for hundreds of millions to build flats

8 December 2022

Brno wants to build a primary school for 540 pupils and a kindergarten for 125 children in the Královo Pole district of the city. The estimated cost is 880 million crowns, announced Education Councillor Irena Matonohová (STAN). Tens of millions of crowns are planned for the construction of a kindergarten for 100 children in Maloměřice and Obřany.

The councillors agreed yesterday to prepare an investment plan for the construction of the schools. Therefore, the costs are only a rough estimate and may change. The town is planning schools in both places because of the expected construction of flats and houses there. “Adequate kindergarten capacity is one of the conditions for the development of urban neighborhoods. Brno is trying to solve capacity problems ahead of time or ensure that they do not arise. That is why we agreed to elaborate investment plans that can facilitate development in the future,” said Brno Mayor Markéta Vaňková (ODS).

The construction of 211 family houses and 485 flats in the Sadová locality is planned in Králově Pole. The primary school and kindergarten will be a response to the estimated increase of almost 7,000 inhabitants. A primary school with 18 classes for 540 pupils and a kindergarten with five classes for 125 children are planned. In Maloměřice and Obřany the kindergarten will offer 100 places.

Brno has 140 kindergartens with about 11,500 children and about 70 primary schools with over 32,000 pupils.
