Brno wants to repair an empty building on Hálková Street for CZK 47 million

Brno is preparing to renovate an empty building on Hálkova street, in which 12 apartments should be created. The estimated costs are CZK 47.2 million. The works could start next year, Deputy Mayor Jiří Oliva (ČSSD) said today.

Brno councilors approved the procurement procedure for the reconstruction. Previously, the building was in charge of the city district of Brno-sever, which had to evict people from it due to its state of disrepair. Today, the object has the city back. “Thanks to the overall reconstruction, 12 apartment units of 1+kk and 3+kk sizes will be created. Of these, 11 will be starter apartments and one will be intended for people with limited mobility and orientation,” said Oliva.

According to him, the construction of an elevator and barrier-free access will be part of the work. “We estimate the cost at approximately CZK 47.2 million net. But the final price will come from an approved tender. Our goal is for the renovation to begin in the first half of 2023 and for the tenants to move in in the middle of 2024,” said Oliva.

Previously, the city did not include inflation clauses in contracts, but according to the deputy, it is counting on it for the Hálkova building. “Previously, we put something out for competition, and due to the rising prices of building materials, companies approached us with a request to increase the price, and we could not comply with them. Now it will be taken care of,” said Oliva.

Brno owns approximately 30,000 apartments. It is about 15 percent of the total number of apartments in Brno. The rest is privately owned.
