Brno wants to sell two dilapidated apartment buildings in Milady Horáková Street, in which no one lives, in a public electronic auction. He wants to sell them for tens of millions of crowns, announced Councilor for Property Róbert Čuma (Pirates). One of the houses is listed, according to Čuma, it will be necessary to consult everything with conservationists during its reconstruction. If the public auction is approved by representatives, the city wants to hold it by the end of the year.
The sale concerns houses in Milady Horákové Street number 17 and 19, one of which is a listed building. “During modifications and reconstructions, it is necessary to have everything consulted and approved by the monument office. We want to sell the houses together to one interested party,” said Čuma.
The plan was approved by councilors, the deputies have yet to confirm it. The city proceeded with the sale by public auction after experience from other municipalities and regions. “This is the first ever electronic voluntary auction of unnecessary property of the city, for which there is no use. I am glad that we started this method of monetization, because it is the most transparent way we can sell or offer real estate to citizens,” said Čuma.
The city sees several advantages in the process of monetization. The auction is public, held electronically and can be attended by anyone, even more interested, after meeting the conditions set by law. It is assumed that a higher price will be auctioned than the expert opinion stipulates. According to Čuma, the city would like to raise tens of millions of crowns, the money would go to the housing stock for the construction of new apartments. The transfer of ownership will then take place by a knock. The auction is published at a central address and in the media, thus ensuring the transparency of the entire sales process. After the auction, the city will evaluate the whole thing and, if necessary, continue public auctions of redundant property.
