Budapest Airport braces for drop in passenger load for 2020

6 May 2020

Ferenc Liszt International Airport in Budapest is expecting to serve between 9 and 11 million passengers this year, down from the 17 million forecasted before the coronavirus pandemic forced border closures around the world. Citing health concerns and economic reasons, the airport anticipates the passenger volume will grow gradually in 2020. The Hungarian low cost carrier Wizz Air is offering a number of connections this month. Other airlines are planning to resume flights in mid-June. American Airlines and Air Canada Rouge, however, said they would not resume direct flights to Budapest until next year. The airport said in a statement that it would likely not be paying dividends in 2020 and 2021.
